Set up shipping rates in Shopify (2026)
What you’ll have at the end
A flat shipping rate saved in your Shopify store's general shipping profile, for the country you ship to. If you choose, it also offers free shipping to orders that reach a minimum amount you set.
Shopify's help says customers see shipping rates at checkout after they enter a delivery address, and only the rates that apply to their order.
Before you start
You’ll need
- A Shopify store you can sign in to
- The country you ship to
- The name customers will see for your shipping option, such as Standard shipping
- The flat price you'll charge for shipping
- The minimum order amount for free shipping, if you'll offer it
What it costs. Shopify's shipping help doesn't list a charge for setting flat rates of your own. To sell, Shopify asks you to choose a paid plan.
Shopify calls a group of countries or regions with the same shipping rates a shipping zone. Zones sit inside a shipping profile. Shopify's help says each store comes with a general shipping profile that applies to all products, and that all your existing and new products are added to it. If you'd like the same shipping rates for all your products, the general profile is enough, and it's the one this guide uses.
Shopify's help says that to sell to customers in a country, that country must be in an active market. If the country you ship to isn't in one, please see "If something looks different" below.
Please have ready the name customers will see for your shipping option, the price you'll charge and, if you'll offer free shipping, the minimum order amount.
This guide uses the Shopify admin in a web browser on a computer.
Steps
1. Click Settings
Sign in to your Shopify admin and click Settings.
2. Click Shipping and delivery
In your settings, click Shipping and delivery.
3. Open the General profile
In the Shipping profiles section, click the General profile.
4. Look for your country in Shipping zones
In the Shipping zones section, check whether the country you ship to is already in a zone.
If it is, please go to step 8. Shopify's help says a country can be in only one shipping zone within a group of locations in a profile, so you add your rate to that zone instead of making a new one.
5. Click Add zone
In the Shipping zones section, click Add zone.
6. Enter the Zone name
In the Zone name field, type a name for your zone, such as the name of your country.
7. Choose your country in Regions and click Done
In the Regions section, select the country you ship to, and then click Done.
8. Click Add shipping option
For the zone with your country in it, click Add shipping option.
9. Enter the Name
In the Name field, type a name for this shipping option, such as Standard shipping. Shopify says this name is displayed to your customers at checkout.
10. Choose Flat in Rate type
From the Rate type drop-down menu, select Flat.
11. Enter the Price
In the Price field, enter the amount you'll charge customers for this shipping option. Shopify's help says that to make the rate free, you can leave this field empty or enter 0.
12. Turn on Offer free shipping, if you'd like to
This step is optional. To offer free shipping on larger orders, select Offer free shipping, and then enter the minimum amount an order must reach to qualify for free shipping.
If you don't want free shipping, please leave it unselected.
13. Click Done
Click Done.
14. Click Save
Click Save. Your flat rate, and free shipping if you chose it, are now saved in your general shipping profile.
If something looks different
- If the country you'd like to ship to isn't in an active market, Shopify's help says to add a market that includes that country first, activate the market, and then set up your rates.
- If your country is in a zone and you'd like to change that zone, click the horizontal menu icon (three dots) next to the zone, click Edit zone, make your changes, click Done and then Save.
- If you already have a shipping option and would like to add free shipping to it, click the horizontal menu icon next to that option, then Edit shipping option. Select Offer free shipping, enter the minimum amount, click Done and then Save.
- The Rate type menu also offers Weight and Order amount, which charge different prices for different order weights or order totals. Shopify's help says weight-based rates need all your products to have weight values, and that if an order falls outside your ranges, no rate applies and the customer sees a shipping error at checkout.
- To give free shipping on only some products, Shopify's help says you need a custom shipping profile for those products, with a flat rate that offers free shipping.
- Carrier or app calculated rates come from carriers or apps rather than prices you set. Shopify's help says some of these need specific plans or fees, so they aren't covered here.
