Create your Amazon seller account in India (2026)

4 min read · India

What you’ll have at the end

An Amazon.in seller account with your GST details, store name, pickup address, shipping method, bank account and default tax rate filled in. Amazon needs at least one product listed before your store can launch; listing your first product comes after this guide.

Before you start

You’ll need

  • Your GST number (GSTIN), or your PAN if you'll only sell GST-exempt products such as books
  • Your GST registration certificate (REG-06 with Annexure A and Annexure B), in case Amazon asks for it
  • A mobile number and email address you can use now
  • Your business bank account details
  • A pickup address in the same state as your GST registration

What it costs. Amazon says listing on Amazon.in is free and charges apply only when you receive orders. Its fees include a referral fee, a closing fee, a weight handling fee for Amazon delivery, and other fees for some programmes.

Amazon asks for your GST number at the start. GST details are required if you sell taxable goods. If you'll only sell GST-exempt products, such as books, Amazon lets you register with your PAN instead.

Please also have your mobile number, email address and business bank account details ready, and keep your GST registration certificate (REG-06 with Annexure A and Annexure B) to hand in case Amazon can't verify your GST number by itself.

Your pickup address must be in the same state as your GST registration.

Steps

  1. 1. Open Amazon's seller site

Go to sell.amazon.in and click Start Selling.

  2. 2. Sign in, if you already shop on Amazon.in

If you already have an Amazon.in customer account (or a Prime Video account), sign in with the same email and password. Amazon then asks you to verify your phone number with an OTP.

  3. 3. Or create a new Amazon account

If you don't have an account, or want a separate one for selling, click Create your Amazon account. Enter your name, mobile number, email address and a password, then click continue.

  4. 4. Enter your GST number (asks for tax details)

You can pause screen sharing while you fill in this page, and continue afterwards.

Enter your Goods and Services Tax (GST) number.

If you'll only sell GST-exempt products, select I only sell tax-exempted products such as books instead. Amazon says GST-exempt products can be sold without a GST number by providing your PAN details.

  5. 5. Verify your GST number (may ask for your GST certificate)

You can pause screen sharing while you fill in this page, and continue afterwards.

Click Continue to Verify. Amazon's registration guide says GST verification can take up to 72 hours and that you'll get an email with the result. You can carry on with the next steps while it's under review.

If verification fails, click Upload GST document, upload your GSTIN certificate (REG-06 with Annexure A and Annexure B) as a PDF, JPG or DOC file under 10 MB, and click Submit GST document.

  6. 6. Choose your store name

Enter the name customers will see for your business on Amazon.in, or accept one of Amazon's suggestions. If Amazon says the name already exists, try a different one.

  7. 7. Choose your pickup address

Choose the address where Amazon should collect your orders. The address on your GST registration is offered as an option. A different address must be in the same state as your GST registration.

  8. 8. Choose a shipping method

Choose Easy Ship or Self Ship. - With Easy Ship, you store and pack your orders, and Amazon picks them up and delivers them. Amazon charges extra fees for this, such as weight handling and pick and pack fees. - With Self Ship, you store, pack and ship orders yourself, or through a delivery service you choose.

  9. 9. Choose how delivery is charged, if you chose Easy Ship

With Easy Ship, choose whether to include delivery charges in your product price and offer free delivery, or to keep delivery charges separate from the price.

  10. 10. Add your bank account (asks for bank details)

You can pause screen sharing while you fill in this page, and continue afterwards.

Enter the details of the active bank account you use for your business. Amazon transfers the money from your sales to this account.

  11. 11. Choose your default tax rate

Select the default GST rate, or Product Tax Code (PTC), for the products you'll sell. Amazon uses it to calculate tax on any listing where you don't choose a tax code.

  12. 12. Stop before listing your first product

The next screen offers Add products and start selling. Amazon needs at least one product listed before you can click Start selling and launch your store. This guide ends here; listing a product is a task of its own.

If something looks different

  • If GST verification is still under review, Amazon emails you the result. You don't need to wait for it to finish steps 6 to 11.
  • If you see the error "Store name already exists on Amazon. Try a different name", please choose another name.
