Add your Instagram account to a Meta business portfolio (2026)

3 min read

What you’ll have at the end

Your Instagram account added to your Meta business portfolio, so you can manage it in Meta Business Suite alongside your Facebook Page. Meta says that once it is added, new campaigns and ad sets include Instagram as a placement, and you can link new ads to this Instagram account.

Before you start

You’ll need

  • A Meta business portfolio you have full control of
  • An Instagram professional account for your business, or a personal one you are willing to switch
  • Your Instagram username and password, and your phone if you use two-factor authentication
  • An Instagram account that isn't already in another business portfolio

What it costs. Meta calls Meta Business Suite a free platform. Its help lists no charge for adding an Instagram account to a portfolio.

Meta lists three things to check first: - You have an Instagram professional account for your business. - You have full control of the business portfolio. - The Instagram account isn't in another business portfolio. Meta says each Instagram account can only be in one.

If your Instagram account is a personal account, Meta may ask you to set up a professional account during step 6.

Please use a computer. These steps are for Meta Business Suite on desktop; Meta has a separate page for its mobile app.

If you change your mind later, Meta says you can remove the Instagram account from the portfolio, and that removing it doesn't delete the Instagram account.

Steps

  1. 1. Open Meta Business Suite

Go to business.facebook.com, sign in, and open your business portfolio.

  2. 2. Go to Settings

    Click Settings.

  3. 3. Click Instagram accounts

In the left menu, under Accounts, click Instagram accounts.

  4. 4. Click Add

    Click Add.

  5. 5. Click Add Instagram account

Please read the information on the screen, then click Add Instagram account. A new window opens.

  6. 6. Log in to Instagram

In the new window, please type your Instagram username and password yourself, then click Log in. Meta says you may be asked about cookies from Instagram, and to set up a professional account if your Instagram account is a personal one.

  7. 7. Enter your security code, if asked

If you use two-factor authentication, enter the security code you receive.

  8. 8. Click Confirm

Click Confirm. Meta says a confirmation message appears once the account is added. This guide ends here.

If something looks different

  • If you can't see Instagram accounts or Pages in Settings, Meta says you may not have full control of the business portfolio. Someone with full control can give it to you.
  • Meta says another person with full control may need to approve the request, in Requests in Settings.
  • If the Instagram account is in another business portfolio, Meta says it must be removed from that one first, or someone with full control of that portfolio can give you access.
  • If your Facebook Page is already connected to this Instagram account and isn't in your portfolio yet, Meta says you claim them together: in Settings, click Pages, then Add, then Add an existing Facebook Page, and choose Claim Page and Instagram.
  • Meta says an Instagram account linked to a personal Facebook profile, rather than a Page, can't be added.
  • Meta says only people with access to this Instagram account's ad accounts can use it to advertise.
  • Meta is moving people to Meta Accounts, so your account settings may be under Accounts Centre or Meta Account settings.
