Connect a domain bought on Hostinger to Shopify (2026)

6 min read

What you’ll have at the end

Your Hostinger domain (such as example.com, and www.example.com) pointing at your Shopify store, and the domain added in Shopify's Domains settings. The domain stays registered with Hostinger. The guide ends at the wait while the DNS change spreads.

Before you start

You’ll need

  • A domain bought on Hostinger, using Hostinger's nameservers
  • A sign-in to your Hostinger account
  • A Shopify store, and a sign-in to its Shopify admin

What it costs. Shopify's domain help doesn't list a charge for connecting a domain you own. Your domain's renewals and billing stay with Hostinger.

You need a domain bought on Hostinger, a sign-in to your Hostinger account, and a sign-in to your store's Shopify admin.

The domain needs to use Hostinger's nameservers. Hostinger's help says that if your domain points elsewhere by nameserver (NS) records, its DNS is managed at that other provider, so the changes below would need to be made there instead.

Shopify can connect domains from some providers automatically. Shopify's help names Cloudflare, GoDaddy and IONOS for this; Hostinger isn't on that list, so this guide uses Shopify's manual route.

Shopify's help says you keep managing the domain, including its DNS settings, renewals and billing, in your Hostinger account.

If you've turned on Hostinger CDN for a website on this domain, Hostinger's guide asks you to turn it off before you change these records.

Please change only the records this guide names. Shopify gives these values today:

  • A record, name @: 23.227.38.65
  • CNAME record, name www: shops.myshopify.com

Steps

  1. 1. Sign in to Hostinger

In a new browser tab, sign in to your Hostinger account.

  2. 2. Open your domain's DNS records

In the left sidebar, choose Domains and click DNS (Hostinger's help also shows this as DNS / Nameservers). Select the domain you want to connect. You'll land on the page with the DNS records for that domain.

  3. 3. Remove an AAAA record for @, if there is one

Look through the records. If there is an AAAA record with the name @, Hostinger's Shopify guide asks you to remove it. Click the trash icon next to it, then click Delete to confirm. If there isn't one, please go to the next step.

  4. 4. Edit the A record for @

Find the A record with the name @ and click Edit. Set Points to to 23.227.38.65. Leave TTL as it is; Shopify's help says you don't need to change it. Click Update.

  5. 5. Remove any other A record for @

If another A record with the name @ is still in the list, click the trash icon next to it, then Delete. Only the one pointing to 23.227.38.65 should remain.

  6. 6. Edit the www CNAME record

Find the CNAME record with the name www and click Edit. Set its target to shops.myshopify.com (Hostinger's form may call this field Points to or Content). Leave TTL as it is. Click Update.

If there is no CNAME record for www, add one instead: choose CNAME as the type, enter www as the name and shops.myshopify.com as the target, and click Add Record.

  7. 7. Open Domains in your Shopify admin

In another tab, open your Shopify admin and go to Settings > Domains.

  8. 8. Click Connect existing domain

    Click Connect existing domain.

  9. 9. Enter your domain

Type your domain name, such as example.com, without www. Click Next.

  10. 10. Click Connect domain

Click Connect domain. Shopify then checks that the DNS records are correct. Shopify's Hostinger help says this can take a few minutes.

  11. 11. Add a verification record, only if Shopify asks for one

Shopify's help says it asks you to verify ownership when a domain is already connected to a different Shopify store. If you see This domain requires verification:

    • In Shopify, copy the TXT value it shows you.
    • In your Hostinger DNS records tab, add a record: choose TXT as the type, enter shopify_verification as the name, paste the value from Shopify, and click Add Record.
    • Go back to Shopify and click Verify connection.

If you didn't see that message, please go to the next step.

  12. 12. Check the domain's status

In Settings > Domains, click your domain's name to review its connection details.

The DNS change takes time to reach everyone. Shopify's manual connection help says it might take up to 48 hours for your domain to be fully live. This guide ends here, at the wait.

If something looks different

  • Shopify's own pages name the button in step 8 either Connect existing domain or Connect existing. Either one starts the same flow.
  • Shopify's Hostinger page calls the button in step 11 I updated DNS records; Shopify's ownership help and Hostinger's guide call it Verify connection. Hostinger's Shopify guide says to wait a few hours for the verification record to spread, and if verification fails, to wait up to 48 hours and try again.
  • Shopify's general manual-connection page also lists an AAAA record pointing to Shopify's IPv6 address, 2620:0127:f00f:5::, instead of removing it as in step 3. Shopify's Hostinger page and Hostinger's guide don't ask for one.
  • Shopify's general manual-connection page writes the CNAME target with a full stop at the end (shops.myshopify.com.). Shopify's Hostinger page and Hostinger's guide write it without one, as in step 6.
  • Shopify's help says your A record may show an address with a different host ID depending on your region, although 23.227.38.65 is the default.
  • Shopify's troubleshooting help says a TLS or SSL pending status shows in your Shopify admin while the DNS change spreads, and that it can take up to 48 hours for the TLS certificate to be issued.
  • Shopify Support can't sign in to your Hostinger account for you. For help with the DNS settings, Shopify's help suggests contacting your domain provider's support team.
