What happens in a course session

What you share, what the steps window does, and how a session ends.

Before you start

A course session moves between your browser and the software you’re learning, so you share your entire screen. If you share a single window, Alongrail can’t see anything more the moment you switch.

Alongrail looks only when you press the button, and images of your screen are not stored. Keep the session’s tab open: closing it ends the session.

The steps window

Once you share, a small window shows one step at a time. Press “Show me the first step”, do it yourself, then press “Done — what next”. You can type a question in “Ask about this step” at any time.

If a step doesn’t match your screen, press “Didn’t work” and say what you see. After two steps in a row that haven’t worked, it offers to take you back to a point where everything was working.

When the session says a part is done, press Check, and Alongrail looks at your work.

Guided, then on your own

Each session has a guided part, then an on-your-own part with a different company’s data. On your own, you get a brief and Alongrail stays quiet until you ask.

How it ends

When every check passes, the session is complete and the next part opens. If you stop before the end, that’s fine: come back and do it again whenever you like. Your progress is under My learning.
