List your first product on Amazon.in (2026)
What you’ll have at the end
One product listed in your Amazon.in seller account, with your price, MRP and quantity, and your store launched with Start selling. Amazon needs at least one listing before you can launch your store.
Before you start
You’ll need
- An Amazon.in seller account, registered up to the Add products and start selling screen
- Your product's barcode (UPC, EAN or ISBN), or an approved GTIN exemption
- The product's name, brand and category
- Your selling price, the MRP and how many units you have
- Product photos in colour, ideally 1,000 pixels or larger on each side
- A few short lines on the product's key features, and a description
What it costs. Amazon says listing on Amazon.in is free. Fees apply when you sell, including a referral fee, a closing fee, a weight handling fee when Amazon delivers your orders, and other fees for some programmes.
This guide carries on from registering your seller account. It starts on the screen that offers Add products and start selling.
There are two ways to list a product: - If the product is already sold on Amazon.in, you match it and add your own price and quantity. Amazon's page calls this adding a new offer. - If it isn't, you create a new listing with your own photos and details.
Amazon's FAQ says a barcode (ISBN or another barcode) is currently required to list. Amazon accepts UPC, EAN and ISBN, and says GS1 India is the only authorised body that issues the UPCs and EANs it accepts.
If your product has no barcode, Amazon lets you request a GTIN exemption, for example if you make or own the brand (private label or handmade products), sell non-branded products, sell parts without barcodes, or sell your own bundles. Amazon's product ID page says you request it in Seller Central under Help, then GTIN Exemption, by choosing your category and brand and sending sample images. Amazon's pages don't say how long it takes, so please request it first and come back to this guide once it's approved.
Some categories are restricted. Amazon calls them gated categories and says they need approval, with additional documents or information, before you can sell in them.
Please have your photos ready. Amazon asks for colour images with the product's features clearly visible. Height and width of 1,000 pixels or larger let customers zoom. Images must not exceed 10,000 pixels on the longest side. JPEG and TIFF are accepted; JPEG is preferred.
Steps
1. Click Add products and start selling
On the last screen of your seller registration, click Add products and start selling.
2. Search for your product
Search for your product by its name, or by its UPC, EAN or ISBN. Amazon says you can also use the model number or brand name to find a match.
3. If your product is in the results, select it
If you find the same product, select it, then go to step 10. Amazon says that for a product already on Amazon.in, you add your price and quantity to its existing listing.
4. If it isn't, choose to create a new listing
If your product isn't in the results, choose the option to create a new listing.
5. Choose a category
Choose the category that fits your product. If the category needs approval, Amazon asks for additional documents or information before you can sell in it.
6. Enter the product ID
Choose the product ID type, such as UPC or EAN, and enter the 12 or 13-digit code from your product's barcode.
If Amazon has approved a GTIN exemption for your product, you won't have a code to enter. Please follow what the screen shows for products without a barcode.
7. Enter the title and brand
Enter the product title and brand name. Amazon allows up to 200 characters in a title and asks you to capitalise the first letter of every word.
8. Upload your photos
Upload your product photos.
9. Add the key features and description
Add the product's key features as short, descriptive sentences, then a description of the product.
10. Enter your price, MRP and quantity
Enter your selling price, the MRP (Maximum Retail Price) and the quantity you have in stock. Amazon says MRP is mandatory in all categories except Books.
If the screen asks for a tax code and you leave it blank, Amazon uses the default GST rate or Product Tax Code you chose when you registered.
11. Review and publish your listing
Check the details you've entered, then publish the listing.
12. Click Start selling
When your listing is complete, click Start selling to launch your store. Amazon's registration guide says at least one completed listing is needed for this. This guide ends here.
If something looks different
- If someone else already sells the product you matched, Amazon says sellers may compete for the Featured Offer, the box on the right of the product page where customers can add products.
- If you need to change a listing later, Amazon says you can edit product details from Manage Inventory in Seller Central.
- If you are the manufacturer and owner of your brand, Amazon suggests looking at Amazon Brand Registry, a free service that gives you more control over product pages that use your brand name.
- If you'd like to list many products at once, Amazon also offers bulk upload with inventory file templates. That is a different process from these steps.
