Create a payment link in Razorpay (2026)
What you’ll have at the end
A Razorpay Payment Link for a fixed amount, with a description of what it's for, ready for your customer to open and pay. If you chose to, Razorpay will also have sent the link to your customer by email or SMS.
Razorpay's docs say customers can pay through a Payment Link by card, UPI, netbanking, wallet, EMI, Pay Later and bank transfer. Razorpay's FAQ says you don't need a website or mobile app to use Payment Links.
Before you start
You’ll need
- A Razorpay account that Razorpay has activated after checking your KYC details
- A sign-in to the Razorpay Dashboard
- The amount you'd like to collect, and what the payment is for
- Your customer's email address or phone number, if you'd like Razorpay to send the link
What it costs. Razorpay charges a platform fee on the payments you receive, shown on its pricing page, and GST on that fee still applies. Its offer terms describe a 90-day 0% platform fee offer for accounts activated on or after 1 July 2026, up to ₹5,00,000. Creating a link costs nothing.
You need a Razorpay account that Razorpay has activated. Razorpay's account set-up page says you sign up and submit KYC details, Razorpay's team reviews them, and then contacts you to activate your account. Please finish this first, then come back to this guide. Until then, Razorpay says you can use test mode, which doesn't involve real money.
Please have ready the amount and a short description of what the payment is for. Razorpay's FAQ says a Payment Link has a fixed amount, and your customer can't enter an amount of their own. It also says a Payment Link accepts one payment only, so please create one link for each payment you'd like to collect.
Creating a Payment Link doesn't spend your money. Razorpay charges a platform fee on the payments you receive. Razorpay's pricing page shows the current rate, and its wording has changed recently, so please check it there. Razorpay's offer terms describe a 90-day 0% platform fee offer for accounts activated on or after 1 July 2026, for domestic payments up to ₹5,00,000 through Razorpay's payment gateway. They exclude prepaid cards, corporate credit cards, American Express, Diners Club and EMI, say GST on platform fees still applies, and say standard platform fees apply after the offer ends. The terms don't name Payment Links, so please ask Razorpay if you'd like to be sure the offer covers them.
This guide uses the Razorpay Dashboard in a web browser on a computer.
Steps
1. Sign in to the Razorpay Dashboard
On a computer, go to razorpay.com and sign in to your Razorpay Dashboard.
2. Check whether the Dashboard is in test mode or live mode
Razorpay's Payment Links docs recommend creating a Payment Link in test mode first, to try it out. Razorpay says no real money is used in test mode, and you can create up to 30 Payment Links per business there. A link for a real customer needs live mode, which Razorpay says is available after your account is activated. Please check which mode the Dashboard shows, and switch if you need to.
3. Open Payment Links
In the PAYMENT PRODUCTS section, click Payment Links.
4. Click + Create Payment Link
Click + Create Payment Link. The Standard Payment Link pop-up opens.
5. Enter the Amount
Under Amount, select the currency and type the amount you'd like to collect. This is the only field Razorpay requires.
6. Describe the payment in Payment For
In Payment For, type a short description of what the payment is for, so your customer recognises it. This field is optional, but it helps.
7. Add the customer's details, if you'd like
Under Customer Details, you can type your customer's email address and phone number. This is optional. Razorpay's FAQ says these details aren't filled in for the customer on the payment page, so your customer may type them again when paying.
8. Choose Notify via Email or Notify via SMS, if you'd like
If you'd like Razorpay to send the link to your customer, select Notify via Email, Notify via SMS, or both. Razorpay sends the link to the email address or phone number you entered in step 7. If you'd rather send the link yourself, leave these unselected.
9. Set a Link Expiry, if you'd like
In Link Expiry, you can choose the date and time at which the link should stop working. This is optional.
10. Add a Reference Id, if you'd like
In Reference Id, you can type your own unique reference number for this link. This is optional.
11. Add Notes, if you'd like
In Notes, you can add internal notes for your own records. This is optional.
12. Click Create Payment Link (can't be undone)
Razorpay's docs say you can't delete a Payment Link. You can cancel it later, but only while nobody has paid it yet. Please review the amount and details, then click Create Payment Link.
Razorpay says the new link is in the Issued state. If you selected Notify via Email or Notify via SMS, Razorpay sends the link to your customer.
13. Share the link with your customer
If Razorpay hasn't sent the link for you, please find the new link in your list of Payment Links, copy its web address, and send it to your customer in your own email or message. Razorpay's docs say you can share a link by email, SMS or social media.
When your customer pays, Razorpay's docs say the link is marked paid and you receive a notification about the payment. This guide ends here.
If something looks different
- Razorpay also offers UPI Payment Links. Its docs show a UPI Payment Link choice after Create Payment Link. This guide uses the standard Payment Link.
- Razorpay's UPI Payment Link steps say to go straight to Payment Links without mentioning PAYMENT PRODUCTS. If you don't see that section heading, please look for Payment Links in the Dashboard's menu.
- Razorpay's docs mention partial payments, where a customer pays part of the amount. Its FAQ says a minimum upfront amount can currently be set only through Razorpay's APIs, so it isn't covered here.
- If you'd like to cancel a link you created by mistake, Razorpay's docs say you can cancel it only while it's in the Issued state, not once it's been paid or partly paid.
- Razorpay's FAQ says every Payment Link shows a Report Payment Link option to customers, as part of its risk policy.
- If you created the link in test mode, it can't take real payments. Please switch to live mode and create the link again for your customer.
