Add a promotion asset to your Google Ads campaign (2026)

5 min read

What you’ll have at the end

A promotion asset saved to one of your Google Ads campaigns. It shows your offer, such as a percentage or an amount off, and can name an occasion Google lists, with the dates you choose. The guide ends while Google reviews the asset.

Before you start

You’ll need

  • A Google Ads account you can sign in to
  • An existing Search campaign in that account
  • Your offer, the product or service it is on, and the web page it should link to
  • The dates the offer runs, if it has any

What it costs. Google says promotion assets are free to add, and you're only charged for clicks from people viewing your ad.

You need a Google Ads account with a campaign already in it. If you don't have one yet, please create your first Search campaign first. Google says promotion assets can add more value to Search Network text ads, Shorts and In-stream video ads. These steps follow Google's help for adding one in the Google Ads website.

Please have ready your offer, the name of the product or service it is on, and the address of the web page it should link to.

Google says promotion assets are free to add, and you're only charged for clicks from people viewing your ad. Adding one doesn't spend money by itself. But if your campaign is already running, Google may start showing the promotion with the ads that are already running, once its review finds the asset complies with Google's policies.

Please use a computer.

Steps

  1. 1. Open Google Ads

On a computer, go to ads.google.com and sign in to your Google Ads account.

  2. 2. Go to Assets in the Campaigns menu

In the Campaigns menu, click Assets.

  3. 3. Click the plus button

Click the plus button to add a new asset.

  4. 4. Select Promotion

    Select Promotion.

  5. 5. Choose your campaign

Google says you can add a promotion asset to your account, a campaign or an ad group. Please choose to add it to a campaign, then choose the campaign the offer is for.

  6. 6. Choose an occasion, if your offer has one

Choosing an occasion is optional. Google's list includes festivals and sales such as Diwali, Navratri, Holi, Black Friday and Summer Sale. If your offer is for one of them, please select it.

Google says the occasion's name appears in your ad, and the occasion's dates are when your asset may be eligible to show. Google also says an occasion promotion must be created or edited within 6 months of the occasion's start date to be eligible to show.

  7. 7. Select the language and currency

Select the language and currency of your promotion.

  8. 8. Choose the Promotion type

Google says you can show a monetary or percentage discount as your Promotion type. Please choose the one that matches your offer, and enter the amount or percentage.

  9. 9. Enter the item

Enter the name of the product or service you're offering.

  10. 10. Enter the Final URL

Enter the Final URL, the address of the page that will show in your ad. Please use the page where your offer is.

  11. 11. Fill in Promotional details

In Promotional details, select the type of promotion and enter any requirements, such as a special code or a spending limit. Google says QR code and barcode promotions don't show on Search, Shorts or In-stream video ads.

  12. 12. Enter Promotion dates, if you'd like them shown

Promotion dates is optional. Enter the dates you would like to show on your ad.

  13. 13. Set when it can show, if you'd like to

Expand Advanced options to change the dates and times when your promotion asset is eligible to show. If you chose an occasion, Google says you can narrow its date range but can't select dates outside it. You can also use Days and hours to choose more specific days and times. You can leave these as they are.

  14. 14. Save the promotion asset

    Save the promotion asset.

If your campaign is running, Google may start showing this promotion with the ads that are already running once the review finds it complies. Google says assets show with your ad when they are predicted to improve your ad's performance, and when your ad's position and Ad Rank are high enough, so it won't show every time.

  15. 15. Check the Status column

Go to Assets in the Campaigns menu, and look at the Status column for your new asset.

While it reads Under review, Google says the asset is still being reviewed and will be eligible to serve if Google decides it complies with its policies. Google's review status help says most reviews are completed within one business day, but more complex reviews can take longer. This guide ends here, at the review.

If something looks different

  • If you don't see an occasion you want, it may not be in Google's list. Google also says some occasions aren't offered in every language; for example, Labor Day isn't available in Dutch, Norwegian, Hebrew and Japanese.
  • The options under Promotional details and Advanced options may be worded differently on your screen.
  • After review, Google says an asset can run if its status is Approved, or Approved (limited), which means it can run but not in all situations because of policy restrictions.
  • Google says editorial policies must be followed for an asset to be approved.
