Learn · The HTML and CSS track

HTML and CSS, in three levels

Each level ends with something you built and a record that links to it. You can stop after any one of them, and what you earned still stands on its own.

HTML and CSS Foundations

One page, written by hand from a client’s content pack, with the browser read back at every step.

In development

HTML and CSS Practitioner

A site, laid out with flexbox and grid, that holds up on any screen.

Earns: a Practitioner completion record.

In development

HTML and CSS Professional

A build somebody else can maintain: accessibility across a whole site, a design system, and the cost of a page.

Earns: a Professional completion record.

Nothing is installed and no account is created, at any level: the text editor and the browser your computer already has are the whole toolchain.

Finish all three

Completing all three levels earns the Alongrail Certificate in HTML and CSS: three levels, three pages, each one built on your own. Like every record, it’s private until you publish it.

Awarded for three completed levels and the three projects linked above.

Each level also earns its own record as you finish it. The certificate comes when all three are complete — Practitioner and Professional are in development.

The record is a description of work you did, not a claim about you. The certificate is the same, three times over. It’s issued the moment your last level record exists, private until you publish it, and yours to unpublish.
