Make a one-page website for your service business with Google Sites (2026)
What you’ll have at the end
A one-page website for your service business, made in Google Sites and published at its own web address. It has your business name at the top, a few sentences about what you do, a photo, your contact details and a button that takes visitors where you choose.
Before you start
You’ll need
- A Google Account (Google says accounts managed by parents can't create sites)
- A computer with an up-to-date Chrome, Firefox or Safari
- A few sentences about your service and the areas you serve
- The phone number and email address customers should use
- A photo of your work, saved on your computer
- A web address for your button to point to, if you have one
What it costs. Google's Sites Help doesn't list a charge for creating or publishing a site. A custom domain is a separate step, not covered here.
Google says you must use a computer to edit a site. Its help asks for Chrome version 24 or later, or the latest Firefox or Safari, with cookies and JavaScript turned on. You can view the finished site on a phone or tablet.
You'll need a Google Account. Google says accounts managed by parents can't use Google Sites.
Please have ready a few sentences about your service, the phone number and email address you'd like customers to use, and a photo of your work saved on your computer. Everything you add will be visible to visitors once the site is published.
Steps
1. Open Google Sites
On a computer, go to sites.google.com/new and sign in with your Google Account.
2. Choose a template
At the top, under Start a new site, select a template. Please pick the one closest to what you need. You can change its look later, at step 10.
3. Name your site
In the top left, click Enter site name, type your business name, and press Enter.
4. Type your page title in the header
The area at the top of the page is the header. Click the title text in it and type your business name, or your business name and the service you offer.
5. Add a text box about your service
On the right, click Insert and then Text box. In the box's menu, click the Down arrow and choose the text, heading or title style you want. Then type a few sentences about what you do and the areas you serve.
6. Add your contact details
On the right, click Insert and then Text box again. Type the phone number and email address customers should use, and any hours you'd like to show.
7. Add a photo
On the right, click Insert and then Images. Choose where to get your image, choose your photo, and click Open or Select.
8. Describe the photo
Select the photo. At the top, click More editing options and then Add alt text. In the description field, describe what the photo shows.
9. Add a button
On the right, click Insert and then Button. Enter a name; this is the text on the button. Paste the web address the button should point to, such as your booking form, or choose a page on your site. Click Insert.
If you don't have a web address for the button yet, you can skip this step.
10. Choose a theme
At the right, click Themes. Under Created by Google, select a theme. To change the lettering, click Font style and choose an option.
11. Preview your site
At the top, click Preview. At the bottom right, choose a layout option and look through the page. When you're done, at the bottom right, click Exit.
12. Click Publish
At the top right, click Publish.
13. Enter your web address
Enter the web address for your site, such as your business name. Google says terms that break its Acceptable Use Policy won't be allowed. If you'd like an address that another of your sites uses or has used, Google's help says to change that site's address or permanently delete that site first. Deleting a site can't be undone, so if you're not sure, please choose a different address.
14. Click Publish again
Click Publish.
15. Check who can see your site
At the top, click Share. Next to Published site, from the drop-down list, select Public, then click Save or Done. The other choice, Restricted, is for sharing the site only with people you add by name or email address.
16. Visit your site
Open your site's web address in a new tab and check that it looks as you expected. This guide ends here.
If something looks different
- Your template may already have sample text boxes and pictures. Click the text you want to change and type over it.
- To change the picture behind the header, point to the header and click Change image, then Upload or Select image. To change its size, point to the header and click Header type.
- If you edit the site after publishing, click Publish at the top right again so visitors see the changes.
- If you use Google Sites through a work or school account, Google says you may find other options when you share and publish.
- Google's help says you can later connect a custom domain (such as www.yourbusiness.com) to a site published on Google Sites, and only the site's owner can do it. That's a separate task with its own steps; see Use a custom domain for your site.
